Pacquiao, Bradley make grand arrival in Las Vegas

MANILA, Philippines – Boxers Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Timothy Bradley Jr. of the United States made their grand arrival in Las Vegas today, four days ahead of their highly anticipated welterweight clash at the MGM Grand on June 9.
Pacquiao immediately hit the track at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas before going to the MGM Grand, where he was welcomed by hundreds of his fans.
The Filipino boxing champion, who will defend his World Boxing Organization welterweight belt, said he was excited and ready for fight night.
Not to be outdone, Bradley also proclaimed his readiness to dethrone the “Pacman.”
“I’m ready 110%,” Bradley said. “Without a doubt on my mind, there’s no doubt in my bones.”
Bradley also shrugged off criticism of Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, who said he was more of a body builder than a boxer.
“It don’t matter what Roach say. I don’t care what he says. He is not going to be in the ring fighting with Pacquiao,” Bradley said.
“Pacquiao will be telling him something different when he comes back in that corner,” he added.
Bradley’s manager, Cameron Dunkin, believes that his boxer is capable of pulling off a major upset.
“Bradley will be knocked out? I don’t see that happening,” he said. “I see a really good, competitive fight, close fight.”
“I believe Bradley, I believe in my guy. I believe Bradley can win. It will be a heck of fight,” Dunkin added.
Boxing fans are expected to troop to Las Vegas this Saturday to watch Pacquiao defend his world title, as well as his standing as one of the best fighters in the planet, while Bradley is eager to maintain his unbeaten record and take Pacquiao’s throne.
Some of Bradley’s fans are already in Las Vegas and are vocal in their support of the American boxer.
“I don’t think Pacquiao trained as hard for this fight. I think he is overlooking Bradley,” said Jeff Patterson, a Bradley fan. “I got a feeling Bradley will take this fight.”
“I’m rooting for Bradley. It’s about time we got a new champion,” added Russell Williams.
Pacquiao is expected to get around $26 million for the fight, while Bradley is slated to get a guaranteed purse of $3 million. – Reports from Dyan Castillejo and Bev Llorente, ABS-CBN News North America

Timothy Bradley Jr. reveals his battle plan

"Once [fighters] get in the ring with me, their strategy or whatever their game plan is just goes out the window," he said. "Because if their strategy is to tie me up, that's not going to happen, I'm sorry."

As for his game plan against Pacquiao: Although he has spoken of his intent to knock out the Filipino, he concedes that standing in front of his opponent wouldn't necessarily be the wisest of plans -- it is, in fact, likely exactly what Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach would like him to do.

"They want to get me in a toe-to-toe fight with Pacquiao because he's a bigger puncher," Bradley said, "but I'll be able to judge after the first couple of rounds whether I can stand toe to toe with this guy and whether I can exchange with this guy."

Bradley does know, however, what he wants to do -- and what he wants to avoid doing:

Pacquiao will be too much for Bradley

MANILA, Philippines – Given his limited technical skills, Timothy Bradley is likely to be blown away in the face of Manny Pacquiao’s assault next week, a boxing analyst believes.
Manila Standard sports columnist Dennis Principe said Bradley looks unpolished when compared to an elite boxer like Pacquiao.
“When I saw him fight, he’s so wild,” said Principe. “He’s very open for someone like Manny Pacquiao.”
The analyst said that to survive a well-conditioned Pacquiao, Bradley would need to be more defense- oriented just like his fellow American boxer Floyd Mayweather.
“Against Manny Pacquiao you have to be like [Floyd] Mayweather, pagdating sa depensa one of the best,” said Principe.
The 28-year-old American boxer will be squaring off against Pacquiao on June 9 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.   At stake is Pacquiao’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown and his stature as one of the world’s
best boxers.
Bradley’s raw skills may be the reason why he was chosen for Pacquiao among the list of possible foes, said Principe.
Before eventually settling for the Palm Springs native, boxers like Lamont Peterson, Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez were being considered for Pacquiao.
Marquez was seen as the most challenging among the contenders, considering his storied rivalry with Pacquiao.
But Principe said that an opponent like Bradley could make Pacquiao look really good.
“I think that Bradley is the perfect fighter for him. I think that’s one of the reasons Bob Arum chose Bradley,” he said.
